Brian Keith Herron had about 10 hours of freedom from federal prison. Then, the FBI says, the unauthorized furlough came to an end. FBI agents and Owensboro police caught up with Herron at about 6 pm Saturday, just less than half a day after he escaped from the federal medical center and prison in Lexington, Ky. Herron faces federal charges related to three bank robberies in Owensboro and Whitesville late in 2002 and early 2003. Herron was discovered missing around 6:30 Saturday morning. He was in Lexington, undergoing a mental evaluation when he escaped. FBI Special Agent Charles Elder says Herron rammed a stolen SUV into an Owensboro police car before being surrounded by FBI agents with their guns drawn. Agents developed information that Herron had gone to Owensboro, where he has family. One FBI agent was treated for cuts to his forehead as a result of the collision with Herron. |
