| Violent Inmate Granted Parole In WA State |

Washington state officials plan to parole an inmate with a history of violence to Iowa next week, despite warnings from a law enforcement officer that the convict remains a danger to the public. The Washington sentence review board has authorized the parole of Jerry D. Lain, 53, of Burt, Ia., who has spent the past 28 years in prison. Officials concluded Lain is rehabilitated and is "a fit subject for release." Lain received a maximum sentence of life behind bars in 1982 after being convicted of first-degree assault against a peace officer. Records show that Richland, Wash., Police Officer Mike Fitzpatrick was investigating a report of a car prowler on Sept. 7, 1982, when Lain attacked him, repeatedly stabbing him with a knife.
