A 17-year-old Northport man was sentenced to pay $27,525 in restitution to the victim of a break-in he committed in April. Christopher J. Hammersley of 1125 E. Lee Mann Rd., Northport, was sentenced in the 13th Circuit Court by Chief Judge Philip E. Rodgers Jr. on Monday on a charge of breaking and entering a building with intent. He was sentenced to serve 17 months to 10 years with the Michigan Department of Corrections with credit for three months served; and to pay $1,328 in fine and costs in addition to the restitution owed the victim. Hammersley will serve time for the conviction concurrently with a sentence he received on Oct. 22 for his conviction on a charge of armed robbery in Grand Traverse County. According to information provided in court documents, Hammersley on June 15 robbed the Clark Gas Station on E. Front Street in Traverse City, and threatened the attendant with a knife. He fled the scene but was tracked by a passer-by who informed the police of where Hammersley was hiding. When confronted by a Traverse City Police Officer, Hammersley attempted to flee, but was detained. He was convicted of armed robbery by a jury on Sept. 21. He is sentenced to serve 3 to 10-1/2 years with Michigan Department of Corrections on this charge with credit for four months served, and to pay $1,378 in fine and costs. Read More. |
