HAVELOCK, N.C. - Havelock police have arrested a man they say is responsible for setting mail drop boxes on fire.

Roger Applewhite, 37, was charged for setting two mail drop boxes on fire in Havelock and one in Newport. Applewhite is facing felony charges of destroying personal property.

Police say thousands of pieces of mail were damaged. They say the two mail box fires in Havelock were set on fire only a few hours apart. Applewhite is also accused of setting another mail box drop on fire in Newport around the same time of the Havelock fires.

Officers say they received a tip, which led them to arrest Applewhite. They say he had incriminating evidence on him at the time of his arrest.
