Police have arrested a fugitive jail corrections officer and a male inmate who they say disappeared together July 7 from a West Texas county. Eastland County detention officer Natalie Nicole Linden, 26, of Ranger, and inmate Douglas Lee Thomas, 21, of May, were discovered last Wednesday hiding inside a Smith County residence. Authorities located the two after investigators with the East Texas Auto Theft Task Force spotted their getaway vehicle in a grove of trees northeast of Tyler. Officials traced the car to Linden's brother and tracked the fugitive pair to the residence. "The two were hiding in the house," Smith County sheriff's Lt. Mike North said in a story in Friday's Tyler Morning Telegraph. "Apparently they had become acquainted with someone who lived there, and they asked to stay a night or two." Officers said the pair were unarmed. They were transported back to Eastland County, where both face charges. Records showed Thomas had been jailed since March for a parole violation, sexual assault of a child and failure to identify as a fugitive from justice. Officials said he was charged Wednesday with escape. Linden's bond was set at $10,000 and she faces the charge of facilitating a jail escape. |
