New Castle, Indiana (December 16, 2010) – On December 9th and 10th, the Indiana Department of Correction’s (IDOC) Correctional Training Institute hosted the Experienced and Emerging Leadership Graduate Retreat. Those attending included 54 IDOC staff who graduated from the Commissioner’s Experienced and Emerging Leadership cohorts in 2007-2008. IDOC’s Chief of Staff Dan Ronay opened the retreat noting the Department is “proud of the accomplishments” of the EEL cohorts and graduates. Chief Ronay reflected on the dedication of staff in the IDOC. He went on to acknowledge and honor 2008 EEL Graduate Michael Leavell who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident in September of this year. Dr. George Manning, author of “The Art of Leadership”, was the guest facilitator and presenter. EEL graduates presented cost effective strategies to the Department and enhanced their leadership skills during the two-day retreat. Dr. Manning noted, “This leadership core is fully engaged and effective, the graduates tackled tough issues facing the Department and were bold in their recommendations.” Richard L. Curry, Executive Director of Staff Development Emergency Operations, in his closing remarks emphasized, “Leaders never stop learning, and need to come together while not being afraid to do what we need to do.” |
