| GA Prison Protest Sparks Potential Lawsuit |

Georgia's correctional system could soon face a lawsuit from the New Black Panther Party and Black Lawyers for Justice. The groups held a news conference at the Macon State prison Sunday. They announced their plans to investigate the treatment of inmates in Georgia prisons after receiving complaints from prisoners and their families. The group says they are accusing state corrections officers of covering up inmate abuse. According to a press release from the New Black Panther organization, inmates are demanding a decent living wage for work, opportunities for higher education, better health care without excessive fees, and an end to cruel and unusual punishment. "We want to go about it in a way that's civil and let the facilities that are doing these things know that we won't stand for it,"says Deron X, Muslim Minister with the Nation of Islam. Read More. |
