| UK Ships Execution Drug To CA Undercover |

British firms have been secretly exporting three drugs used in lethal injection executions to the US, legal charity Reprieve revealed today. A massive batch of Sodium Thiopenthal, one of a cocktail of drugs used in executions, was exported to California before Business Secretary Vince Cable imposed a ban on the lethal substances. The state purchased 512g of the chemical - enough to execute over 80 people. Mr Cable was forced to impose the ban after Reprieve was allowed to seek a judicial review of his refusal to place an export control order on the chemical. The charity, along with Leigh Day solicitors, had brought legal action against the British government over its failure to prohibit the export of the drug, which was used to execute an Arizona prisoner.
