Although it’s rare for a woman in the final months of her pregnancy to land in jail, the Winnebago County Jail is nonetheless well-prepared for cases like that of a pregnant Omro woman who is being held in connection to her 8-month-old son’s death. Kayla B. Westenberger, 27, is being held at the jail on a $750,000 cash bond. Westenberger is charged in connection with the death of her infant son after investigators found the child’s body strapped into his car seat inside a sport utility vehicle that was partially submerged in the Fox River near the Eureka boat launch Oct. 30 Westenberger’s husband told investigators his wife was five or six months pregnant at the time of his son’s death.
