| Convicted Killer Will No Longer Serve Jail Time |

A Lakes Region man whose convictions on three counts of negligent homicide were overturned by the New Hampshire Supreme Court, freeing him from a three to 12 year prison sentence last year, now has had six special felony counts of drug possession dropped because he was illegally searched by police. The state agreed to dismiss or "nol pros" the charges after the defense won a motion to suppress evidence obtained through an improper search. Joshua R. Shepard, 30, 267 Court St., was indicted in August after Gilford Police removed a "mint tin" containing prescription medications and a straw from Shepard's pocket as they searched him for "weapons and contraband," after arresting him for driving a motorcycle when his license was suspended.
