| Despite Fees, County Short On Money |

Ramsey County commissioners approved a series of maneuvers Tuesday to deal with a $250,000 revenue shortfall in the sheriff's budget this year and the potential for a similar shortfall next year. None of the changes imperils the 2010 or 2011 budgets or will affect property taxes, several county officials said. Outgoing Sheriff Bob Fletcher said the 2010 shortfall was due primarily to a projected revenue bump from an increase in the county jail's inmate booking fee to $25 from $10 in previous years. The bump never came. Using the $25 fee, the county board had projected $500,000 in revenue. But the actual revenues appear to be closer to $220,000. Since 2005, revenue from prisoners at the county jail has been above Fletcher's conservative estimates. This marks the first year the estimated revenues fell short. Read More. |
