| Inmates Help Save Lives On Work Release |

RACELAND – At first, it was just another day on the trash truck for two Lafourche Parish work-release inmates. But when Christopher McDowell and Conway David saw smoke pouring from the attic vent of a Hospital Drive home about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, working the “hopper” took a backseat to warning of danger. Suspecting someone was home, the men urgently knocked on the door of the house and told 78-year-old Norman Dupre what was happening when he finally answered. They stayed with Dupre until they were certain he was out of his house and help arrived. They have been showered with praise from corrections officials, their employers and other people, who say their quick work and willingness to help may have saved a life. Read More. |
