| MI Man's Attempt At Innocence Falls Short |

A Battle Creek man has failed in an attempt to overturn a jury conviction for a 2009 attempted murder and armed robbery. A three-judge panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals affirmed Tuesday the conviction of Jerrell J. Jones, 25, for his part in beating and robbing a man inside a house at 444 Capital Ave. S.W. on Jan. 23, 2009. Jones is serving a sentence of 32 years to life with the Michigan Department of Corrections after his conviction on eight criminal counts. He is housed at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee. The victim told Battle Creek police he had gone to the house with a prostitute to buy drugs but was accused of being a police officer. He was beaten with a bat and gun by Jones and another man and eventually made to stand in a cold shower for nearly an hour to wash away blood before he was freed. Read More. |
