At a meeting of the BJCC Community Advisory Committee held at the prison in Alva, District Judge Ray Dean Linder asked for the floor to make a suggestion. He explained that in 1995, there was a group of core individuals in Alva who worked for and finally obtained the building of BJCC. Linder said of the programs at BJCC, "Its success has been unrivaled by any other facility in the State of Oklahoma and perhaps even in this part of the United States." He told the audience that one of the members of that committee who strived to obtain this facility was the late Donald L. Benson. He said, "I would like to suggest we ask the Department of Corrections to name this new chapel building in honor of not only, Donald Benson, but Vera Mae Eversole as well, through the financial trust that she left, handled by the Methodist church.
