The man who pled guilty in the manslaughter of Shannon Southern died Saturday after suffering what authorities believe was a heart attack. David Dewayne Collins, 36, collapsed in his cell at the Sequoyah County Detention Center at approximately 1:30 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead later at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart. An inmate who was in the cell with Collins told Detention Center authorities that Collins told him that he felt light-headed and hot. Collins, the inmate said, then collapsed, according to Lockhart. "Jail staff were notified immediately, and CPR was performed until EMS arrived," Lockhart said. Collins was transported to Sequoyah Memorial, where he was pronounced dead at 2:23 p.m. "No foul play is suspected," Lockhart said. "It appears he had a heart attack." Read More. |
