A Cheshire County Superior Court judge’s ruling could come any day on a transfer request from a former Marlborough man who killed a friend in Alstead more than four years ago. Albert F. Sheehan, 41, was in court earlier this month for a hearing on his request to be transferred from the N.H. State Prison’s Secure Psychiatric Unit to the less-restrictive N.H. Hospital. The state-run hospital treats people who have mental illnesses and are considered a risk to themselves or others. The secure psychiatric unit of the prison is a higher-security facility where people are also treated for mental illnesses. Court and corrections officials say that while the judge’s final ruling on the transfer will be made public, information about Sheehan’s mental status — which would be the basis for the ruling — is not open to the public.
