Earlier this month, during a brazen attempt to smuggle cocaine and marijuana into Mobilong prison, a man fired drugs from a homemade spud gun into the prison's walls. However, a prison guard heard the "pop" of the gun and the drugs were later located inside the jail walls. The Department of Corrections has cracked down on contraband, seizing 1208 prohibited items during a record 31,325 searches throughout SA prisons in 2010 - about 10,000 more than two years ago.
