JOLIET — A man in prison for drug offenses has been charged with a 2009 murder. And a homicide from last week may be linked to the case. Darius Johnson, 19, was served with an arrest warrant Wednesday at Stateville Correctional Center for reportedly killing William Gatson, 29, during a drive-by shooting. Gatson had been released on parole just days before he was slain on Aug. 28, 2009. He was wearing a monitoring bracelet on his ankle around 6:15 p.m. as he stood on a front porch in the 400 block of Fourth Avenue. Police were told a white BMW drove by and a passenger shot Gatson once in the back and grazed another man in the buttocks. Gatson died while the other man fled before police arrived and ended up at the hospital. Read More. |
