| DOC To Expect Layoffs In Coming Month |

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A big loss of rental beds at the Yakima County jail is forcing the county to layoff 34 Department of Corrections employees effective Jan. 31. Jail officials learned this week that they are losing about 200 inmates from King County housed here under contracts worth roughly $6 million, said Corrections Director Ed Campbell. For several years, the Yakima County jail has had contracts with communities on the west side to house their inmates. But a new 800-bed jail in Des Moines, Wash., has been able to underbid Yakima County, taking those contracts, Campbell said. Read More. |
