EAST SPENCER — The first woman named East Spencer’s Officer of the Year has been fired from the town police department. In a letter sent to Cassandra Rankin on Dec. 10, Police Chief Floyd Baldo specified a Dec. 8 incident in which he says she shouted at him and Anneissa Hyde, the town clerk and acting town administrator. In August, Rankin pulled over Hyde for a traffic stop and discovered an outstanding warrant for Hyde for failure to appear in court. Rankin then requested the assistance of another officer, who arrested Hyde and served the warrant. She also gave Hyde a citation of driving while license revoked. Baldo wrote in the dismissal letter that Rankin, a Woodleaf resident, shouted at non-law enforcement staff of the Town of East Spencer while in uniform and armed. Read More. |
