ST. FRANCISVILLE — Although a prison bloodhound lost the trail of an escaped inmate before dawn Monday, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said authorities continued to search for the man near the town’s historic district. “It’s my gut feeling he’s still in town,” Daniel said of David St. Germain, a 45-year-old burglary suspect. St. Germain, a trusty at the parish jail in the middle of town, pulled the chain-link wire mesh of an exercise yard fence apart Sunday night, allowing him to reach an animal control pen, Daniel said. St. Germain then pulled razor wire apart at the top of another fence to escape, Daniel said. The inmate was counted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday but was missing when jailers called for him at 5:15 p.m. to hand out food trays to other inmates, Daniel said. Read More. |
