| UT Man Has Violent History With Police |

Roger Cantu, who was shot and wounded by Salt Lake City police in April when he charged an officer with a stick, is back behind bars. Cantu, 20, was arrested Tuesday for violating terms of his probation in connection with the incident that led to the shooting. Department of Corrections spokesman Steve Gehrke said Adult Parole and Probation issued an arrest warrant on Monday, alleging Cantu failed to complete counseling and court-ordered community service, and violated an order not to possess controlled substances. He remained in Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday on $25,000 bond in connection with the third-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge originally filed against him in the shooting incident. On April 7, police were called to Cantu’s home near 100 South and 650 East because he reportedly was threatening suicide. Cantu, making verbal threats, allegedly charged an officer with a 4-foot wooden dowel. The officer repeatedly ordered him to stop and when Cantu kept coming, the officer opened fire. Read More. |
