| Sheriff's Office Gets Budget Increase |

At its annual reorganizational meeting Monday, the Webster County Board of Supervisors approved a $110,000 budget increase for the Sheriff's office. For fiscal year 2011, the sheriff's general basic fund will see an increase after suffering a $300,000 reduction July 1. County Auditor Carol Messerly explained to the board that the department appropriation change was in response to a federal grant received in August. "At the time the sheriff applied for the grant, he didn't know if he'd get it," Messerly explained in a later interview. "But in his 2011 budget, he (the sheriff) identified expenditures as if he had gotten the grant." Webster County Sheriff Brian Mickelson said the $93,530 COPS Methamphetamine Initiative grant received in August was for the strict purpose of "methamphetamine eradication." Read More. |
