FORT PIERCE — A change-of-plea and sentencing hearing has been scheduled at 2 p.m. Feb. 15 for former Port St. Lucie Mayor Patricia Christensen, who was arrested in September on charges of official misconduct and failure to properly dispose of campaign funds.

Christensen, 53, who did not seek re-election in 2010, resigned her post immediately after her arrest. Her alleged crimes occurred during the 2006 mayoral campaign when, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement, she deposited about $3,800 from campaign funds into her personal account and used the money to pay personal bills and expenses.

Official misconduct is a felony punishable by up to five years in the state Department of Corrections and a $5,000 fine. Failure to properly dispose of campaign funds is a misdemeanor under the campaign finance law punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine; but the law's two-year statute of limitations has run out.
