EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Egg Harbor Township is getting the New Year off to clean start by targeting its shoreline for cleanup with the help of inmate labor, and various state and local government agencies. According to Donna Burger, the township's Clean Communities coordinator, 2011 is the 14th year that the township has sponsored the cleanup, an effort that began Jan. 4 and will take place in West Atlantic City and the Margate Causeway over a two-week period. "Last year, more than six 40-yard roll-off containers of debris were collected from the township's tidal areas along the shore," said Burger. The program is being undertaken in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Clean Shores Program, New Jersey's Clean Communities Program, and the Atlantic County Utilities Authority.
