Fake Lawyer In Court As Defendant

After practicing law for several years without a license, Tahir Malik had a different day in court--this time as the defendant.

Malik appeared before Judge Larry Axelrood at the Skokie courthouse on Tuesday. The 47-year-old Skokie resident is facing charges of impersonating a lawyer and forgery.

Law officials said Malik practiced law for at least five years. His scheme was foiled when staff at the Skokie courthouse grew suspicious of his behavior during a Dec. 17 hearing. When questioned about his credentials, court officials realized that Malik was not licensed to practice law
