Abdul Shabazz died for about $500 in marijuana in a drug-deal arranged by a former MinSec resident for his sons last month.

Some community leaders believe the 30-year-old father may still be alive had the 170-bed halfway house never opened.

West Hazleton Police Chief Brian Buglio is among them.

Calvin Garrett, who moved to West Hazleton after leaving MinSec, arranged the drug deal for his sons, Izel and Isiah Garrett of Mechanicsburg, who were visiting their father, according to younger Garretts' arrest papers.

Both are charged with criminal homicide, along with another man, Tyrek Smith of Harrisburg, who accompanied them to West Hazleton.
