At the board of supervisor's meeting on Tuesday, Plymouth County Sheriff Mike VanOtterloo reviewed the sheriff's 2011-12 fiscal year budget. The proposed budget for the sheriff's communication center for 2011-12 is $325,583, an increase of $13,682 (4.4 percent) from the current 2010-11 budget. VanOtterloo's proposed budget for corrections (the jail) is $968,493, an increase of $16,960 (1.78 percent) from the current budget. The proposed budgets were higher than the current budgets due to an increase in salary, IPERS and insurance costs. The sheriff also proposed that his general basic budget for 2011-12 be $899,529, an increase of $52,981 from the current budget, and that his rural service budget for 2011-12 be $244,491, an increase of $12,316. Overall, the total increase in the sheriff's proposed basic/rural budget is $65,297, or 6.1 percent higher than the current budget. The proposed basic/rural budget was higher than the current budget due to an increase in salary, IPERS and insurance costs and because the sheriff budgeted $28,000 for the purchase of an additional squad car. VanOtterloo said the car is needed because the sheriff's office will be short a vehicle once one of its deputies returns from military service this year. Read More. |
