The governor’s proposed budget plan would have a significant impact on the county agencies that handle young criminals, adults on parole and people who commit low-level offenses. Officials in both Alameda and Contra Costa counties say the governor’s plan, if approved, would bring more inmates into already crowded detention facilities as well as put more former prisoners on unsupervised parole. “It’s of great concern,” said Contra Costa Probation Officer Philip Kader. “Our clients could continue to have problems.” “If we take on more parolees without resources,” said Bill Fenton, assistant chief probation officer for Alameda County, “we get more potential for recidivism.” Read More. |
