Fire Causes Problems At KS Jail

WICHITA, Kansas -- The Sedgwick County Jail was on lockdown after a small fire in the ceiling Wednesday morning.

Around 6 a.m., an external electrical transformer apparently failed. According to Sheriff Robert Hinshaw, the failure caused some sort of electrical surge inside the Sedgwick County Detention Facility.

Deputies immediately discovered and extinguished a small fire in the ceiling where power runs throughout the building. Some of those deputies were later treated for possible smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

The sheriff says the security of the facility was never compromised.
