SACRAMENTO — A twice yearly report looking into government waste uncovered practices by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation that cost taxpayers over $366,000. The State Auditor's report outlined 8 cases of governmental waste, but on top of the list is the case of a prison psychiatrist who was suspected of being unfit for duty. The report says the unnamed doctor "failed to prescribe, overprescribed and inappropriately prescribed medication to patients, thereby placing them at risk of physical harm." Yet he wasn't relieved of his duties for four months. And while he was performing administrative duties? State Auditor spokesperson Margarita Fernandez says, "He continued to recieve his full salary which was over $20,000 a month and on top of that he received two merit salary increases." Read More. |
