Marin officials making a last stand to prevent construction of a new $356 million death row complex at San Quentin State Prison said Tuesday they are optimistic Gov. Jerry Brown will reconsider the project. Assemblyman Jared Huffman said he met late last week with high-ranking members of the Brown administration. "It went very well," Huffman said. "I'm hopeful that the new administration is even now in the process of taking a fresh look at this project and finally considering some more sensible and cost-effective alternatives that we've discussed with them. "I don't want to characterize their position at this point," Huffman said. "But I think the fact that the department of corrections has not tried to rush forward and begin construction shows there has been a change." Read More. |
