A Brevard County (Fla.) Jail inmate facing more than 100 burglary charges was accused of plotting to kill three witnesses in the cases against him, including a deputy sheriff and a pregnant woman, authorities said. Nicholas David Meredith, 24, of Cocoa, was charged with three counts of solicitation to commit murder after the Brevard County Sheriff's Office was tipped off by an unidentified informant, officials said. The informant said Meredith had provided detailed information about the targets, including maps to their homes and ideas on how to kill them, and promised to pay for the murders in cash when he got out of jail, sheriff's officials said. Meredith told the informant to kill the pregnant woman first since she had the most incriminating information against him, said sheriff's spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez. Investigators arranged a meeting between Meredith and the informant, then taped their conversation, which will be used as evidence, said sheriff's agent Brian Guilford. Meredith was arrested June 16 after he was identified in a surveillance video of a break-in at a Domino's Pizza restaurant, Martinez said. |
