| Two Attacks Hospitalize Guards |

The Michigan Reformatory prison in Ionia was the scene of two inmate eruptions Wednesday, one of which resulted in injuries to four corrections officers, including one who remains hospitalized, Department of Corrections officials said this afternoon. The unidentified officer was attacked in a housing unit about 6:30 p.m. by at least two inmates, ages 19 and 25, beaten and kicked in the head, said MDOC spokesman John Cordell. He was taken to a Lansing hospital for treatment. Three other officers were treated for less serious injuries and released, he said. The attack came less than a half-hour after a group of about eight prisoners got into a brawl on the facility’s exercise yard, a brawl which ended when an officer fired a warning shot, Cordell said.
