200 inmates riot at private prison

Inmates used sports equipment to destroy property and set a small fire in the recreation area after 200 prisoners refused to return to their cells at the Crowley County (Colo.) Correctional Facility on Tuesday.
Two inmates were injured, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known, said Steve Owen, Tennessee spokesman for Corrections Corporation of America, which owns and operates the medium-security prison.
Officers were attempting to quell the disturbance late Tuesday.
"They're dealing with a group of inmates who no longer want to participate and a group that does," Owen said.
The private facility, which began accepting inmates in 1998, is designed for 1,152 inmates and houses prisoners from Colorado, Wyoming, and Washington.
Owen did not immediately know what sparked the disturbance. No officers have been reported injured.
