| MS May Monitor Inmates With GPS |

The Mississippi Department of Corrections is planning a pilot program using a GPS tracking system to monitor state inmates on house arrest. State Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps said 100 inmates will be tracked during the six-month test period. Currently, radio frequency electronic monitoring alerts officials if an inmate on house arrest is outside the perimeters of the home or permitted area. But the GPS system will allow virtually all movements to be tracked - both at home and throughout the community. The new system uses multiple cellular towers to locate the offender's bracelet recording the offender's position approximately every minute and transmits a record every 30 minutes. Read More. |
