| Arkansas Inmates Could Face Out Of State Transfers |

Speaking to a group of Arkansas sheriffs today, Governor Mike Beebe mentioned that state officials are exploring a novel way of easing prison overcrowding. Beebe says some Louisiana counties are willing to hold Arkansas inmates for just $28 per day, less than half the $60 per day it costs to house inmates in the state prison system. Arkansas Correction Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler says the idea would help ease the pressure on Arkansas county jails, which are currently holding 1,600 state inmates because there's no room for them in the state system.
