| NC Sheriff In AZ To Combat Gangs |

DOBSON — This week, Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson and Lt. Randy Shelton attended the World Gang Control Strategy Summit in Arizona in hopes of getting “ahead of the curb.” Atkinson and Shelton attended the three-day summit hosted by the National Alliance of Gang Investigators’ Associations to provide administrators with information on best practices and trends related to gangs. The sheriff said his purpose in attending the summit was to get ahead of the growing gang problem in the nation and to learn about what to watch out for in Surry County. “The reason why we’re here is not because we have a big gang problem,” Atkinson remarked. Shelton is the head of the Surry County Detention Division, and he is also vice president of the N.C. Gang Investigators Association. He has prior experience working on gang identification projects with the N.C. Department of Corrections and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Read More. |
