Judge Determined To Keep Teen In Jail

Two decades ago, Circuit Judge Nick Geeker vowed to keep Joe Sullivan in prison for as long as he could for raping a 72-year-old woman when he was 13 years old.

He sentenced him to life in prison.

Last year, a U.S. Supreme Court decision overturned Sullivan's sentence, ruling it unconstitutional to sentence a juvenile to life except in a homicide.

On Thursday, Geeker kept his original promise to sentence Sullivan to prison for as long as possible. This time, he sentenced him to consecutive terms of 40 years for each of the rapes.

Sullivan did not speak during his second sentencing appearance before Geeker.
