| Budget Puts DOC Pay Increases On Hold |

YAKIMA -- In a count of votes Thursday, Yakima County corrections officers agreed to delay receiving a 5 percent wage hike this year to save jobs and help the county deal with a shortfall in its jail budget. The majority vote by officers will save the county $475,000 in wage increases under their labor contract with the county. The three-year contract with 5 percent annual base pay increases expires at the end of this year. "They are doing it to help their fellow officers keep their jobs," said Wayne Johnson, business representative for Teamsters Local 760.
