| State Prison Faces Problems With Increased Population |

Baldwin city officials are assessing the potential impact of an inmate population increase at Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto. Mayor Jerry Neace, who was attending a Habersham County Water and Sewerage Authority meeting Jan. 25, told those at the meeting state government is assessing closing a prison and transferring the facility’s population. The Alto facility has 500 beds and could be the recipient of some of those prisoners, Neace said. Increased sewage treatment could be 50,000 gallons per day, according to Neace. “We really don’t know yet,” said Kathy Seabolt, warden at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institution of an increase in the prison’s population. “It is a possibility.” Read More. |
