| Corrections officer transporting prisoner killed in crash |

By Michael Novinson Published: 6:22 PM - 01/28/11 Last updated: 6:24 PM - 01/28/11 TOWN OF ULSTER — A corrections officer died and two others were injured as a result of a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon. A state Department of Corrections van driven by Casamiro Pomales, 52, was involved in a crash at 1:35 p.m. about two miles north of the I-87 Kingston exit. Pomales, who has worked at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch since 1989, died, while corrections officer John Minuck and prisoner Ralph Ambert suffered non life-threatening injuries, said spokeswoman Linda Foglia. Minuck and Ambert were taken to Kingston Hospital. The van was taking Ambert to the Albany area for a medical issue. Ambert, 40, is serving a life sentence for a 1995 murder conviction. Pomales, a Napanoch resident, is survived by his wife and several grown children. Read More. |
