| Inmate Investigated For Officer's Death At Prison |

On Jan. 30, 2011, the Washington State Department of Corrections issued a release advising that a corrections officer at the Monroe Correctional Complex had been found dead. The body of Jayme Biendl, 34, who had worked with the department since 2002, was found in the prison’s chapel. It was later confirmed that she had been strangled. At 9:14 pm on the evening of Jan. 29, a routine count of offenders was conducted and one inmate was missing. Officers went to the chapel where the missing man was located. The prisoner told officers he was planning to escape. It wasn’t until an hour late when an equipment check was done that authorities noticed a correctional officer’s radio and keys were missing.
