| County Inmates To Transfer To State Jail |

TROY, Kan. — After months of inspections, negotiations and commissioners’ consideration, the Doniphan County Law Enforcement Center finally received a contract to house state prisoners. The facility already holds prisoners from Wyandotte and Doniphan counties. Sheriff Jerry Dubach said Doniphan County law enforcement officials received the contract on Monday. Currently, the law enforcement center in Troy, Kan., houses offenders from Doniphan and Wyandotte counties. But the new contract will provide additional offender housing and additional revenue. “I’m very eager to get this process moving,” Mr. Dubach said. “(state and Wyandotte offenders) will have to pay $40 a day, so it’s income for the county, which is great.” Mr. Dubach said Wyandotte County offenders alone accounted for $15,700 in income in December 2010. The county’s “rent-a-cell” business amounted to about $156,940 for 2010. Read More. |
