Eighteen saddle-trained horses are going up for adoption soon, and staff of the BLM, Nevada Department of Agriculture and its Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City are hoping the wild horse adoption event scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 12 will be as successful as the last adoption was in October.

While bidding starts at $150, one horse, "Quick" in the adoption event last October went for a top bid of $8,500. The bid for the 2-year-old strawberry roan gelding was the highest in the history of the decade-old program in Carson City. The other 11 horses up for adoption that day sold for at least $1,000 each.

Wild horses up for adoption are saddle-trained for four months by inmate trainers in the Nevada Department of Corrections program.

The saddle-trained horse adoption competitive auction event will be held at the NNCC in Carson City. Preview of the horses is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m., with competitive bidding at 10 a.m.
