PLYMOUTH — The coldest weather in years delayed the start of this year’s training academy for new correctional officers at the county jail. Drill instructors let the new recruits actually get seated in their classroom Monday morning before verbally lashing into them. On a warmer day, the abuse would have started before the student officers even got out of their vehicles in the parking lot. Monday’s delay lasted only long enough for Senior Drill Instructor Dwayne Fortes, an officer in the jail’s maximum security wing, to introduce his team of drill instructors to the 52 men and women who comprise the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department’s 49th Basic County Correctional Officer academy.
