| Transgender Inmate Lawsuit To Take Off |

Attorneys for the state of Wisconsin and transgendered inmates are set to argue Monday before a federal appeals court over the constitutionality of a Wisconsin law banning hormone treatments for those prisoners. Back in April, U.S. District Judge Charle Clevert ruled for the inmates, and found the state's "Sex Change Prevention Act" unconstitutional. He found that the law amounts to "deliberate indifference to the plaintiffs' serious medical needs in violation of the Eighth Amendment," because it denies hormone therapy without regard to those needs or doctors' judgments. One of the lawmakers who sponsored the bill called Clevert's ruling a "travesty of justice." The state appealed, and the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals hears oral argument in Chicago this morning.
