| County Crime Stats Not Always Accurate View |

A 19.4 percent decrease in the crimes reported in 2010 to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department looks good on paper. However, one of the statistics had rural residents feeling less safe. “When your total offenses go down I think that’s a good thing. When you solve 64 percent of your cases I think that’s outstanding,” Sheriff Randy Duvendack said. Unfortunately, the year will be remembered for the Aug. 18 fatal shooting of 54-year-old Diann Hoagland outside her rural Alexander home, the sheriff added. The slaying and burglaries near Hoagland’s home in the eastern region of the county sent shock waves of fear not only in her rural neighborhood but also through other communities. Read More. |
