Col. Greg Malloy is laid to rest Sunday. Malloy, a Holmes county corrections officer, was killed in an altercation with murder suspect Wade Williams last week.

Family and friends gathered with law enforcement agencies from all over the state.

Col. Greg Malloy’s life was indeed cut short. But as both blood family and law enforcement family gathered to say goodbye to him Sunday afternoon, it was evident that though his life ended too soon, he left behind many that loved him.

Sec. Walt McNeil, Florida Department of Corrections said, “Col. Malloy exemplified what it means to be in the greatest profession in the world, a profession dedicated to public service. Col. Malloy understood what we in the Department of Corrections engage in every day, that is, service before self.”

It was in service that he gave his life to protect the people of northwest Florida when he ran across murder suspect wade Williams. The two exchanged gunfire. Malloy was mortally wounded and died on a life flight to Pensacola. Gov. Rick Scott offered words of encouragement to the family Malloy leaves behind.
