Two inmates at South Carolina's Lee Correctional Institution have been arrested and charged in connection with a riot and hostage situation at the prison in October.
Tyrone Singletary, 24, and Jacob Lynch, 23, both of Columbia, S. C., are charged with two counts of taking a hostage and one count each of participating in a riot, assault on a correctional officer and concealing a weapon.
They were booked Friday at Richland County's Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Singletary and Lynch are two of five inmates authorities allege took two guards hostage for five hours on October 29th.
Corrections Officers Marcus Cotton and Kenneth Dozier both recovered after being treated last year at local hospitals.
Corrections Department Inspector General Charlie Sheppard says the inmates used home-made knives to take over a wing at the maximum security prison. Lee County Sheriff EJ Melvin says the inmates released the hostages and were taken into custody five hours later after negotiators arranged a meeting with WIS News 10's Craig Melvin.
Wednesday night there were three guards in charge of 245 inmates in the unit, which is about an average inmate to corrections officer ratio in South Carolina prisons.
Prison sex allegations bring more suspensions.
